Who we are

Intuergy is built on the belief that successful energy transition projects require more than technical knowledge—they require the disciplined project development, commercial and delivery expertise that has underpinned major energy investments for decades. As Founder and Managing Director, Nigel MacLean brings over 20 years of experience supporting some of the energy sector's most complex asset developments, redevelopments and decommissioning programmes, applying globally refined project and business management techniques developed within the upstream energy industry.

Recognising the opportunities presented by the energy transition, Nigel began his own transition in 2019, leading the early-stage redevelopment of the UK's largest gas storage facility into a future strategic energy storage asset capable of supporting methane and hydrogen markets. This led to his appointment at Centrica Plc in 2021 as Head of Development and Projects, where he was responsible for developing and delivering more than £1 billion of energy transition capital projects across the UK and Europe.

Over the course of his career, Nigel has successfully developed and delivered in excess of 1GW of energy infrastructure projects spanning Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar generation, hydrogen-ready gas peaking plants, biogas, long-duration energy storage (LDES), strategic energy storage facilities and behind-the-meter energy solutions for commercial and public-sector clients. He has led projects through the entire lifecycle—from origination, feasibility and commercial structuring through consenting, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and operation.

Alongside development expertise, Nigel has extensive experience in project execution and construction delivery, applying APM principles and FTSE utility best practice in governance, contract strategy, EPC management, procurement, programme controls, risk management and stakeholder engagement. At Centrica, he established and led integrated development, EPC and PMO teams responsible for one of the most diverse capital investment programmes in the company's history, delivering a strong safety culture and a substantial pipeline of operational energy transition assets.

Unlike many consultants, Intuergy operates independently and is not in competition with asset owners, developers or the supply chain. Our role is to provide objective, experienced and commercially focused advice, drawing upon decades of experience developing and delivering major energy infrastructure projects. We help clients identify opportunities, de-risk investments, accelerate project delivery and achieve successful commercial outcomes in an increasingly complex energy landscape.
